Welcome.

D.F.L. (down-from-London) 8 years ago, I live and work in the coastal town of Folkestone, Kent in UK.

Trained as a portrait sculptor, I have also taken up ceramics since moving to Folkestone and this year, I was one of 12 potters on the Channel 4/ HBO Max TV show The Great Pottery Throw Down.

Turquoise colour, the sinuous ‘S’ shape ( curve of an Ogee arch ) and ornamental metal work are reoccurring themes from my childhood growing up in Iran. They are a constant source of inspiration.

In my ceramics, I often like to balance soft curves with sharp contrasting angles or even use the odd metal spike. Telling a story or creating a mood is very important to me – having worked in British theatre for 28 years, I often use elements of theatrical costuming or even set design.

I hope this approach makes the viewer connect with the work by adding their own narrative.

Other main achievements:

Victorian and Albert Museum – London:

In 2011 I was one of the winners of V&A museum’s national   ‘Inspired by…’  competition                         (an absolute high point of my life)

Turner Contemporary – Margate:

And later this year, two of my ceramics will be showcased at The Turner Contemporary Open in Margate (22/10/2021 – 20/02/2022).
